PLACES: A weekend in Flensburg (out of Berlin)

After five months I finally visited Flensburg again. While visiting this lovely seaport right by the danish border in the north of Germany for my first time I actually didn't expect this town to be so beautiful. With a population of only 90,000 this is a great place to spend your weekends when you're tired of the big cities (like Berlin). I had a long weekend (4 days) which is luxurious for me since I've started working and studying at the same time so for that reason I took the opportunity to get out of the big city jungle and calm down for a while spending time with a special someone enjoying the harbor and the togetherness being lazy all weekend long. Friday afternoon we spend time brunching at the historical harbor eating the most delicious "Fischbrötchen" (Sandwich with fresh fish, bread and veggies) and drinking one of my favorite German beers "Flensburger Radler"(well north german beer which is 50/50 beer and soda that mostly women drink it cause men think it's not manly enough).
The next day I got to see the farmer's market which takes place every Saturday and I think Wednesdays or Tuesdays, as well. It's located in the center of Flensburg on the market square. Well you actually can't miss it cause the town is not that huge that you would get lost (which I sometimes really enjoy due to constantly using Google maps when I'm home in Berlin). It's a great place to buy your fresh groceries. But I recommend you to do your shopping in the early afternoon when the vendors reduce their prices to almost 50 percent. So that's of course what we did!
So Saturday evening was cooking time. Well more precisely it was pizza and visitor's time. Having some visitors coming over and creating a freshly prepared and self made pizza dinner for four (without candle light). Couldn't decide to have either white or red wine so we just decided to get both.
The days definitely went by waaay to fast and I'm now back in my busy Berlin. It was like having a short holiday trip which is needed once in a while. Next weekend I will be going to Lübeck which is an other town in north Germany by the water as well. You'll hear from me by then or maybe earlier, I'll see.
But so far I wish you a great start of the week and enjoy reading.

Love,

Bye Bye Mitte... - Closing Postfuhramt

Pictures from the c/o
c/o entrance // bunch of crazy people
8th of March 2013 - Saturday morning it's 11.45 (15 minutes too early) and I'm just one out of 50 people falling inline at the book sale of Berlin's c/o photo gallery.
Yes, it has already happened. Unfortunately this beautiful photo gallery at a former Berlin post office in the Oraninenburgestraße in Mitte had to close it's photo collection. At the last minute the c/o got the chance to transfer their collection to the Amerika Haus in Charlottenburg. Not as nice as the old post office but you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, right?!
But what happened then with their book store? Well, the museum shop arranged a book sale which started on the 8th of March at 12 pm and ended the following afternoon. Nor did I have the intention to look for certain books nor was I really eager to come home with treasures. Spontaneously (better say luckily!) I looked up at the book sale 15 minutes before opening and thought I would be too early and  figured out I was just on time. Security men were guarding the book store while proximately 50 impatient visitors were waiting for the gates to open.... This was definitely not how I was imaging my Saturday morning to be. Instead it was stressful, narrow, hot and totally chaotic!! The store was tiny, the books were unsorted, the people were annoying.
Well anyways it turned out to be a successful day. After boxing myself through the crowed and a chock-full store I came out with 60€ lesser but three books richer. This is what I got:

Coming Into Fashion - A Century of Photography at Conde Nast // Sibylle - Modefotografien 1962-1994 // Michael Thompson - Portraits

Don Jon's Addiction

As I mentioned in my last post, I attended the film premier of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's movie Don
Jon's Addiction starring Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt himself.
The actual release of the movie is the 10th October 2013 for that reason I was really excited to watch the movie so early and the most exciting thing about that evening was of course the presence of  Joseph Gordon-Levitt who is one of my favorite actors since I saw 500 Days Of Summer with Zooey Deschanel.
The Premier was at the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin. A huge theater with a capacity of almost 2000 seats. The atmosphere wasn't the regular movie night atmosphere. Because it was the premier most of the people in the audience were workers and co-workers from the Berlinale and their relatives. So most of all there were people from the movie business which luckily kept the atmosphere formal and classy. Before the movie started Joseph Gordon-Levitt held a short speech posed a bit for all the thousand people with their cameras (me e.g. ...haha).
The movie was great although I'm not sure if I would watch it again. I do think thath Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a really great actor but I mostly like him in characters as Tom Hansen in 500 Days Of Summer which is the total opposite of Don Jon. And I don't want to ruin my perfect image of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. But anyways great Job Joseph!

Enjoy your weekend,

Event: 63. Berlinale

Since last Tuesday there's been the annual film festival Berlinale going on here in Berlin. And since I've been living here, I of course get more in touch with this event. Especially through my friend who's one of the interns working for the Berlinale and who's housing during the event at my place.
In every corner of the city you can see the big colorful placards with the "Berliner Bär" which is the symbol of Berlin. This picture was taken last friday before my friend and I went to the premier of Don Jon's Addiction by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It's one of the offices of the Berlinale at Potsdamer Platz. The festival started on the 7th Feb and is going on until the 17th Feb. If you want to get tickets to the movies you have to be really quick. So far as I know most of the movies have already been sold out since Wednesday, but if you're just interested to see some of the short movies or documentaries, there might probably still be some few tickets to buy. So bee quick if you're interested to get a tiny bit of "Berlinale flair".

Have a lazy Sunday,

Happy belated New Year!

Ha ha... yes, it's sunday. It's the 6th of january. And YES New Year's eve is almost a week ago. So what?! Happy New Year! This year, pardon, last year all I wanted was a quiet New Year's eve with my closest friends. No huge party, not too many people and no pressure in having THE party. It turned out to be the nicest 31st of december I ever had. I had my best friend who is luckily my room mate too and my best former school friends invited to Berlin over New Year's eve. It was kind of traditional: brunch, movie, nap^^, coffee and "Berliner" or as the Berliner say "Pfannkuchen", dinner, a walk to the Victoria park, champagne at midnight, party untill late at night, bed time.
It was perfect. And I'm so glad to have had my best friends at my place. Thank you so much for coming over although it took a bit time due to the long distances between us all. But we have to get used to not seeing each other so often anymore. We're turning into grown-ups and a lot of things are changing in the way we don't want things to change. But we know we have to go our own ways now. So thank you for spending the last day of 2012 with me. And I hope we'll stay in touch.
Happy New Year!
Love,

Berlin Yoli frozen yoghurt

Taste it! While visiting Berlin few weeks ago it came out that frozen yoghurt is a perfect way so cool down on hot days, especially on days like we had during our Indian Summer here in northern Europe just few weeks ago.
One known fronzen yoghurt store you MUST visit is Yoli. The first forzen yoghurt store in Berlin. Every store is design in a natural white, minimalistic style with a touch of bright colored spots on the walls. They have the most delicious frozen yoghurt, the best toppings and yoghurt smoothies.
Visit one of their three stores (or visit all) in Berlin:

Yoli Invalidenstrasse in Mitte,
Yoli Münzstrasse in Mitte,
Yoli Bergmannstrasse in Kreuzberg

Visit them online on http://www.yoli-berlin.de/
